Code of Conduct

Shibari Perth is committed to creating the best possible environment for everyone to participant our workshops, classes and events in. We want you to be able to learn new things and practise in a safe and comfortable environment.

Shibari Perth welcomes people from all walks of life, we do not tolerate any form of discrimination, bulling, harassment or abuse in any form, form verbal, online, physical, emotional, or sexual. Deliberate intimidation, stalking, inappropriate physical contact, or unwelcome sexual attention.

We expect you, like us to do your utmost to be respectful, use inclusive language and behaviours. Any form of abuse to staff will also not be tolerated. Failing to act in a proper manner you will be denied entry or asked to leave the studio.

Consent

Shibari Perth practises activate, enthusiastic, and informed consent. We ask that everyone attending our studio acts in a consensual manner, set healthy boundaries and educate themselves in all aspects of consent.

When attending our classes, lessons, fun rope nights, workshops, at some point we might need to interact with you. We will discuss consent and our possible interaction with you at the start of each class. We will ask that you speak up if you are uncomfortable with anything, such as casual pointing, touching of rope placement or equipment as part of instruction.

Photography

Shibari/Kinbaku is a beautiful art form. We understand that people love to take photos of their time in rope and what they have achieved. We have a simple line that needs to be followed. If you’re going to take photos make sure you get peoples explicit stated permission, this includes the possible people in the back ground of your shot. If you’re going to post online once again get permissions from all the people involved first.

We don’t like having to deal with photo complaints as they are so easy to avoid, so please be mindful before you take the happy shot of your rope friend looking like a pretzel.

Safety

Sometimes things do and can go wrong, as much as we try to provide a safer place through certified suspension framing and equipment, a council approved space, positive behaviours and actions, we can’t be held responsible for other people’s actions, so on that note… if you flag something that has happened to you in our space that is deemed illegal will offer to you our full support and notify the local authorities.

We ask that people tie and act in a safe manner at all times.

Let’s not push boundaries and tie past our experience. Everyone is classed as an equal at our studio, and everyone has a voice. Models have a voice and need to be heard. Active communication is to be used from both parties, Riggers and models. Please use active descriptive words that can be understood by others around and the Shibari Perth team as we are the ones there to help you. Misunderstanding and poor communication can lead to model injury.

At all times rigger must provide and have their own safety shear with them and accessible at all times. We don’t put metal on metal so please use rope or slings on our framing. Tie in your space and when finished please don’t leave your equipment lying around as someone might like to use the placement.

Arriving and departing and parking.

There are multiple business here at our location. Some cater for the elderly some for children.

We just ask you arrive and depart in casual street wear. Once inside things can be a lot more casual.

There is plenty of parking, but sometimes things do fill up. We ask that people don’t park directly in front of an open business as it restricts their ability to trade.

There is abundance of street parking.

Smoking, vaping, Alcohol and drugs.

Alcohol and drugs is a straight no from us, we are a dry venue.

When going outside to smoke or vape please dress appropriately and dispose of your butts.

Food.

Please, no food or open drinks in the studio where we tie or on the mats. The couch area has a table that you’re welcome to use. Use the bins provided and clean up after yourself.

We don’t have a mum service :)

Dress code

For all our workshops, classes and Shibari lessons we have a minimum dress code. Gym wear is totally fine, gym shorts crop tops etc.

When attending the rope jams, jute fixes, jute jams, rope fun nights we can loosen up a bit, the minimum dress code is pants, but we don’t want to see your nether bits.

Sex on Premise

As for sex on site, we don’t allow sex or sexual gratification on site at any of our gatherings. Sorry we know it’s fun but it’s not allowed.

Grievances

All grievances are taken seriously and will be treated privately and all information held in confidence. We will endeavour to work with all persons involved for an amicable result. If we are contacted by someone with a complaint and we are asked to bring this forward to the other party we do so in good faith to help find a solution to the situation. We ask for all to be understanding that this is being done to help build a better community, we will not tolerate abuse and ask everyone to act respectfully.

This is a living document and will be updated regularly. Positive growth and change is an important journey.
