Our Story & Who we are

Shibari Perth was born from the idea that a dedicated Shibari Dojo was needed as to cater for the ever growing popularity of the Japanese art form of Shibari rope. With the limitations and the expense in renting venues in the past, plus the fact that the venues just weren’t quite suited for our needs we put our minds together and started designing.

The first hurdle - a venue. Perth is a great city, but too far south or north we exclude a lot of people, so something reasonably central was the key. We also needed to have one that ticked all the local council boxes. After finding the right venue in a pretty good location the big refit started.

Acknowledging that the space also needed to cater for all levels from floor work to partials and full suspensions, and the ability to hold Shibari workshops and Shibari lessons, rope and jute jams and fun rope nights. We also plan to host not just local but interstate and international talent to help expand the local Perth based knowledge.

The venue really had to be something different.

The next big challenge was a really big challenge. We needed to make a structure that could not only hold the right amount of people. It also had to be structural. So we employed a structural engineering company to help with the design and professional install team. We went to them with our idea, then we all put our heads together and we think they hit the brief better than we hoped for.

We got that unique one of a kind look.

Perths First purpose built Shibari Rope Dojo.

Now we wouldn't be true to ourselves if we called the Shibari Perth Rope Dojo a community place if we limited to our sole use.

We are happy to say It’s also available for others to hire and use as well, so reach out if you’re keen.
